Our public-outreach activities are commensurate with the scope of specific projects. In conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration, we established the I-95 Girard Avenue Interchange Project Archaeology Center, a working archaeology laboratory for processing artifacts recovered from the surrounding neighborhoods of Northern Liberties, Kensington- Fishtown, and Port Richmond.
As cultural resource managers, one of our major responsibilities is helping communities understand the significance of preserving and interpreting their history for present and future generations. We participate in events sponsored by community and archaeological organizations and coordinate various types of educational programs to highlight special projects. We share promotional materials, display artifacts, and provide hands-on opportunities with 3D printed artifact reproductions.
