Our work has involved the identification, exhumation, documentation, analysis, and relocation of eighteenthto- twentieth-century grave clusters ranging from 3 to more than 600 individuals. Cemetery projects also involve the recovery, identification, and analysis of all associated funerary artifacts, including coffin furniture and interred personal objects.
Our experienced mortuary archaeologists are thoroughly versant in local and state regulations and requirements applicable to cemeteries and human remains, and are skilled in all aspects of the required research; delineation and recordation of cemeteries; and the respectful excavation, recovery, and analysis of human remains. Our archaeological team has conducted or consulted on many cemetery projects throughout the Middle Atlantic region for both public and private institutions.
Integral to successful cemetery projects and investigations, AECOM strives to maintain positive relationships with local & descendant communities through public outreach.
