Archaeobotanical analysis allows archaeologists to answer questions about the ways in which past peoples interacted with their environment, and how environments shaped their everyday experiences. By closely examining the effects that human behavior and the environment had on each other, archaeobotany is uniquely suited to interpret past foodways, reconstruct precontact and historic environments, and contribute to our understanding of past economic patterns.
With over 15 years of combined experience, our team specializes in macrobotanical analysis and is highly trained in a wide variety of analytical methods and procedures used to process, identify, analyze, and interpret botanical remains recovered from archaeological settings.
From historic dooryard gardens and the introduction of Old World plants to precontact plant use and foraging strategies, our team of botanical specialists is able to help describe past human-environment interactions in a way that can complement any of the other archaeological analyses AECOM offers.
